U.P. boutique resort unveils unique speakeasy-type bar

HOUGHTON, MICH. — A new subterranean bar in the U.P.’s Keweenaw Peninsula is aiming to woo people with its distinctive ambiance and future-stage attention to element.

The Counting Home a short while ago opened as an amenity at The Vault Hotel, a boutique inn located in an 1887-built former lender setting up in downtown Houghton. Playing off the location’s historical past, The Counting Space — tucked away in the building’s former basement vault and boiler home — was intended to exude a cozy, private, speakeasy vibe.

“It feels like you are likely into a definitely higher-conclude financial institution of the 1800′s,” suggests Jen Julien, The Vault Hotel’s proprietor, who labored with auctioneers and antiques sellers to outfit the space.
