Revamped boutique hotel with scenic La Jolla shoreline views opens

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Manoj Chawla prefers to go with the stream. He says it is what led him to get into the hospitality business more than a decade ago when he bought a Super 8 resort at auction.

On Friday, Chawla and his group from Mira Mesa-dependent Oceanic Marina LP cut the ribbon on the freshly renovated Cormorant Boutique Lodge, a 26-room lodging facility at the web site of the former La Jolla Inn. They bought the resort in 2016 and originally weren’t setting up for a massive renovation, but eventually did a single that includes a rooftop cafe and a “reimagined” Prospect Current market, a callback to the property’s original iteration in the 1940s.
